Angela's Portrait of the Month

This year at Angela Carson Photography we have decided that 2011 is the official “Year of the Family”. So many times in the rush of life we forget that our family whatever shape, size and no matter how crazy (you know ALL of our families are nuts!) our family is truly the most important thing we have in our lives.

This portrait is of a simply wonderful family that we have known for over 20 years. Angela first photographed the oldest son when he was just 18 months old. It is so rewarding for us to have built relationships with our clients that span 2 decades and see babies grow into young adults in college. We have had so many fun sessions together. Angela has a wild way of remembering the silliest details of their past portrait sessions. She loves to tell the kids these stories about them as babies and young children.

This has been a family portrait in the making for a couple of years. In the past Mom had to worry about nap schedules, play dates, homework, then tennis and volleyball schedules.  This time the logistics of getting her husband and 3 kids together has changed quite a bit. Now she had to worry about work schedules, class schedules, exams and who is in town when. It is never easy getting a busy family of 5 together and as Angela always says “somebody is going to have to miss something”.  For this session to happen everyone did what they had to do and made a few sacrifices to make it happen. I am sure you will agree it was well worth it.

Stories isn’t that what life is all about? Portraits are stories, visual stories of your life. There is the story of your relationship with your children, your children’s relationship with you, and their sibling relationships. Relationships are fluid, they are always changing and moving. No matter how much you want your children to stay little, you want them to grow to live happy, independent and productive lives. You want them to know no matter what happens there is always family. Your family, the ones who love you, support you, cheer you on, wipe your tears and kick you in the butt when you need that too. Angela saw the parents of this family as the bookends of the family. The Mom and Dad regardless of how much their children have grown-up their lives revolve around the most important job they will ever have, being parents. The parents are the glue that holds the family together. That’s what we saw. One happy, fun and balanced family “keeping it together”.

We hope that you have enjoyed Angela’s Portrait of the Month as much as we have enjoyed sharing it with you. Please join us in celebrating 2011 as the “Year of the Family”. Allow us the pleasure of telling your families story in portraits. We promise you will be happy that you did it now and forever.
